I think there's a misunderstanding in what Skype For Business does with conversation history (made worse by MS's UI). In my experience with SFB 2016, the conversation history *IS* saved in the application itself. It only seems like it's not because when you double-click on a contact the UI brings-up a blank new IM rather than reloading the previous IM. You can see this by switching to the second tab for 'Conversations' in the main SFB window. If you double-click on a previous Conversation (rather than the Contact person from that Conversation) then it behaves like consumer Skype -- i.e., the way everyone expects it to behave.

The Conversation History in Outlook is an optional *copy* command which is enabled by default. The only reason for it is legal compliance with records retention, i.e., you can't delete your history if your company doesn't want you to.

I think this is already resolved. I just tried it in Skype For Business 2016 (from my current Office 365 subscription) and it worked as expected.

I agree with Brittany, this suggestion seems unnecessary.

If I try to IM someone who's offline I still get the chat window but there's a message across the bottom saying, "Such-Such is offline but they'll still get your IMs as missed messages." Maybe the original poster didn't notice that warning?
