Display call participants as a list (like Windows client)
Show a list of the names of participants in conference calls, including which are muted, which are talking and which are presenting content, like Skype for Business for Windows.

after one of their updates I too was lost, but in the current version, whilst you are in a conference call you need to toggle between chat function and participants list. Very annoying because when a presentation is shared and you want to see participants (including their status) and use the chat function at the same time this is quite necessary. Especially in bigger calls with 10 or more participants. So, I hope I either helped you rediscover the list view or reiterated your point that the participant view should be available during a call.
Have you tried Teams,btw? The Audio/Video experience is far superior especially when having calls with China (from Europe or the US).
