Allow splitting the contacts window from the conversation window (as was possible in earlier Skype versions.
This was a basic feature as I see it... I at any point have 5-10 active conversations on skype and without separating the conversation window, I wouldn't know who is sent the last message, and the pop-up that comes up and goes away is making me miss messages..
flashy interface can not be the priority, a usable interface has to be the priority and then you can make it flashy on top of it...

It really says something about the direction of the company when a company named WINDOWS takes away the WINDOWS from their own application. WTF were you thinking???
We need this back YESTERDAY.
In both skype/skype for business removal of splitting the conversation windows shows complete disregard for all users; Skype is used, I mean was for its simply but vital processes - split window, take pictures, copy and paste & export conversation - and is another system Microsoft has destroyed so Deaf people cannot communicate. To lip read or sign need to be able to see each other at all times, but cannot do that if having to look at a different screen, nor do we need emoticons appearing on the screen disturbing the view!
and last time I checked I'm a grown-up and want a service that looks that way - seriously did none of the developers try the 'new version' on the big screen (video conferencing) my kids have a better understanding of what is needed than Microsoft - serious question to Microsoft - do you want to kill of your business?? time for me to look else where...wasted my money on windows phone, surface and renewal subscriptions

each iteration I think you succeeed in scaring away another cohort of your users. I'm certain that not having the split view will be very sucessfull in removing another batch.
Not all users want to work the same way.

What a stupid idea, to remove an essential part of Skype in a newer version. I have reinstalled version 7 until this is sorted, and if it isn't then i'll be dumping skype.
split window / compact view is a valuable accessibility feature. Alt+tab keystroke is used often by blind computer users with screen readers to cycle among opened windows. With split window/compact view, conversations are in the alt+tab list and thus it is immediately obvious that I have missed a chat. Plus, from a keyboard perspective, being able to alt+tab or windows+tab and select the desired conversation to bounce among conversations, plus an additional window is available that gives direct, immediate access to the conversations list itself or to contacts, is critically beneficial. It's vastly more productive and efficient than having to fight your way through the interface to locate the conversations list, perhaps having to hit back buttons to get it to appear and then you still have to tab around to it because often alt+1 the keyboard shortcut to do it doesn't work, to reach the conversations list, and to add insult to injury, often as not pressing enter on a conversation doesn't open it and place you directly on the chat window, sometimes you land somewhere unexpected. All this bs could be totally unnecessary just bring back split window/compact view, from a usability standpoint this feature makes absolute, perfect sense.Windows and the software it comes with are supposed to make life easier, this bs is making life more difficult and MS has lots of customers with money and effort invested into the Skype platform and now MS has the audacity to ******* up for us. What's more, skype for windows 10 has had a few years to mature now and still refuses to see reason, and skype 8.25 has come to the forefront to make me more upset by continuing to be ridiculous. If I knew of a very similar platform I would switch to it and drag all my friends along with me. Come on, put the balls to the wall and bring 8.25 and skype for windows 10 up to snuff already, please? with chocolate icing on top?

Split window has to be there. At a time we should be view & co-ordinate with multiple contact on individual contact.
Both options should be there either to Split Window or Combine (Compact) Window
In this way all the users can communicate the way they like
I support this motion to get the contacts window separated from any conversation window but also it should facilitate multiple conversation windows. The absence of this facility is why I have reverted from the Windows 10 version back to the Compact/Classic, pre-Windows 10 version of Skype. This is particularly due to the fact that I often hold multiple conversations with separate participants, which absolutely should be separate and not in one large chat group.
I was using compact mode before the latest update ytd, losing compact mode is a real pain for managing multiple conversations in the desktop, please put it back ASAP otherwise, people like me may switch to use others.
