Stop automatically replacing typed characters in IMs with emoticons
This is a really annoying feature, especially since the emoticons only after hitting send. I keep having to apologise to colleagues, clients, etc. for unintended emoticons that have the potential to cause embarrassment, harmful misunderstandings and the appearance of non-professionalism. So, please turn off this ridiculous, unnecessary, puerile feature! (!)
I'm shocked that there is no way to turn this off. I work in regulatory compliance and frequently cite statutes and regulations in Skype conversations which utilize (a), (b), etc. In Skype FOR BUSINESS, there's got to be an off switch which does not only remove emoticons from my display, but stops my typed text from being replaced with stupid icons for readers as well.

This is still an issue - apparently if you hide emojis, it still displays them at the other end of the conversation, so you just don't know what you did.
Can skype please enable an "adult" mode

This ridiculous and unnecessary feature has caused me a great deal of trouble. At a previous company I worked for, I was in a group chat when an emoji was erroneously inserted into one of the words I typed, completely changing the intent of my message. The people in the conversation became so upset over the non-professionalism and puerility that a scuffle erupted and eventually escalated into a full riot. Three people died that day as a result of the injuries they sustained in the melee, countless others were hurt, and millions of dollars worth of computer equipment and office supplies were destroyed. I had to live in the wilderness for 3 months in order to evade a police manhunt before finally assuming a new identity and fleeing the state. I may never see my wife or kids again, but I'm not going to take the fall for an outburst of violence that skype is clearly at fault for creating. Hopefully this issue will get fixed soon, I can't keep changing my identity every time my words get harmfully misunderstood.
you can turn this off under Options->IM ->Show emoticons in messages
I love write emoticons with characters :)
