Keep history in conversation
keep all history in the conversation, as is done in gtalk
When using Skype on my IPhone, after some time it kicks me out of group chats when not active. It says "Conference ended" and I have to be invited back in. Is there a way to avoid this from happening?

This is controlled by your IT admins. I have full Skype for Business conversation history that replicates back and forth between mobile and desktop client. I can also control via a retention policy how long that conversation history can be stored. Regarding Teams... eventually Teams will replace Skype for Business, but has a long roadmap to get where it is a one-to-one replacement. Depending on what features you use in Skype will dictate when you can replace it. For example if you use enterprise voice and web conferencing, it will be longer than just IM.

Skype for Business is being phased out and replaced by Teams this year. Ive been testing today and it looks amazing. And has persistent chat!
Really need this, makes Chat really unusable..
Hi, everybody. There is a solution for this issue ))
This is so basic and so important! Come on Microsoft we all need this!!! Get your basic **** together I'm about to switch to Google!!!
HOW IS PERSISTENT CHAT NOT IMPLEMENTED YET HOLY ****!
LOGGED BACK INTO SKYPE FOR BUSINESS AFTER OVER A YEAR OF AVOIDING IT, JUST TO FIND OUT NOTHING HAS HAPPEND FOR A WHOLE YEAR! NO HISTORY, NOTHING. HAHA. THEY PROBABLY OUTSOURCED THEIR DEVELOPMENT TEAMS TO RUSSIA SOMEWHERE AND THEY KEEP READING THE TICKETS LIKE "CHAT HISTORY? WAT IS THIS SERGEI DO YOU KNOW? SPAZIBA NO UNDERSTAND U THINK THEY WANT MORE EMOJIS OF UGLY CATS SLABODAN? YES IMPLEMENT AND SET TO RESOLVED"
Holy ****.... this is still outstanding?
This is ****ing ridiculous. Why am I and others across our company and our clients, subcontractors etc, resorting to using your competitor apps because your app cannot do the basic stuff that every other texting app in the industry can do????
Everyone is uninstalling skype for business and now we barely even use it for conference meetings anymore. We are talking tier 1 clients, like 10,000 plus employees around the world sort of clients.....
I'm tempted to go back to gsuite....
Gear dropdown or just Gear > Tools > Options for Skype > General > Reopen my conversations when i sign in may solve some of your issues in the desktop client, but my complaint is that if i log in to another workstation, skype is auto launched, which is a local policy configuration, and this ends up killing all my active conversations, even if i am typing in them at the time. Killing the auto-launched process on the new connection does not prevent this from happening in time. I think email may be safer.
The chat in skype for business is completely UNUSABLE. This ranks as the worst user experience I have ever had.
Please hurry to add this function，This feature is very convenient, and can save unnecessary trouble。I think this feature is the most basic in all software

The fact Skype for business doesn't do what Skype does - preserve history in chat - is incredibly counter-productive. What the **** were they thinking?

Microsoft people do not use Skype for business. This is why they do not know basic usage scenarios!
In my Skype for business I have missed conversation, I open it and it says: "OK". my colleague replied to me. but I will never learn to what she replied to.
Unsusable tool for chatting. or is the purpose of the application something else?
Funny part is if you open up the skype for business in the mobile app, all the history is right there. So the functionality "IS" there. Microsoft just decided not to expose it on the desktop app.
Yeah, kind of surprising the lack of support for this basic feature which is supported in the regular skype platform and every single other messenger app out there. It's like a car manufacture building cars without doors. I avoid Skype like the plague but we have to use it at work.
As Mitch pointed out below, it's abundantly clear that MS is putting little to no weight on user feedback as it relates to Skype for Business. Teams is the product that MS is putting most of its focus on right now; see how their uservoice community has a response from a MS rep on EVERY SINGLE top idea: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public
If would hop to Teams if you can, otherwise, use Zoom or Slack for video meetings.
Not storing the conversation history in Skype for Business makes me loath using the product and makes me extremely hesitant to recommend the product to customers and colleagues.

I'd also add that all authenticated of my S4B clients should contain and retain all conversations. It's frustrating that I can start a conversation on my phone then, the recipient's response will inextricably go to my desktop and my laptop's open client won't show any of the conversation. Just update all clients with all the conversation(s) and comments in real time and have all clients retain the history. Seems to me that it'd be much simpler programmatically, especially since S4B's attempt at trying to figure out which client I'm on doesn't work.
Plus I may have to start a conversation on my desktop and, while in transit, continue it on my phone, then finish it on my laptop during an off site meeting. Seems to me that this would be a very common scenario.
